Trackstar Printing can accommodate virtually any file format you wish to provide. We do, however, caution our customers that some entry level design programs are not always printer friendly and may cause unnecessary delay and additional preparation cost. The most popular programs accepted, either in PC or Mac format, include PageMaker, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Freehand, Quark and In-Design.
If your project is not designed in one of these formats, there's no need to be concerned. We haven't accepted a job yet we couldn't print from customers files. The important thing to remember is that Trackstar Printing uses a PDF workflow solution. Providing us with Properly Prepared PDF Files will save you valuable time and money.
General Guidelines:
- If your artwork goes all the way to the edge of the page, you need to make sure you include 1/8 inch "bleed" in your artwork on all 4 sides.
- We recommend that you use only "Type 1" (PostScript) fonts. If you are sending us application (non-PDF) files, make sure you include BOTH screen and printer fonts, including fonts that are used in linked graphics! Most TrueType fonts will print OK, but you should avoid Multiple Master fonts at all costs. For extra security, you can convert fonts to paths in Illustrator or FreeHand, but this will eliminate our ability to make any late changes.
- Screened text can be difficult to read, especially if it is a light color or reverses out of a light color. If you are designing with colorized type, especially small type, avoid using light screens. Instead try to make screened values at least 60%, and try to make at least one of the inks (preferably cyan or magenta) 100%.
- Set up large areas of black coverage with the following values: 50 cyan, 30 magenta, 30 yellow, 100 black. Small black text (under 18 pt) and rules (under 6 point) should be left 100% black only.
- If your design requires perforations or folds, please indicate them in the bleed area of your artwork with a small tick mark.
- Please refer to the individual application sections to the left for more specific instructions related to the various software titles.
